On November 22, Taipei Mission in Sweden organized a book donation ceremony that was held at Uppsala City Library. The Ministry of Culture and the National Library of Republic of China have donated more than 100 children´s books to Uppsala City Library.
The donation ceremony was hosted by Anna Sofia Perotti, unit manager of Uppsala City Library who welcomed all the guests. Following her opening remarks, Sten Bernhardsson, Chief Executive Officer of Cultural Affairs (Uppsala City) talked about the importance of keeping good relations with the international community and how Uppsala city is working to promote international cultural exchanges. Mr Bernhardsson invited Ambassador Liao to the stage to say a few words. Ambassador Liao expressed his joy to be able to showcase Taiwanese unique and creative culture through these Chinese-language books. He talked about the natural beauty of Taiwan and hoped to raise the Swedes´ curiosity for our beautiful island. Bilateral cultural exchanges are a good opportunity to build bridges between peoples and countries and to attract more people to visit Taiwan and experience its multiculturalism.
At the end of his remarks, Ambassador Liao handed over the book Jimmy Liao - A Collection to Mr Bernhardsson as a symbolic gesture of the donation.
A total of 114 books were donated to the library. Among the more well-known titles in Sweden are "Starry Starry Night" by Jimmy Liao and "Guji Guji" by Chen Chih-yuan.
