The Stockholm Pride Parade was held on Saturday, August 3, this year, attracting more than 50,000 marchers and 500,000 visitors, and was supported and participated by the Swedish government and many diplomatic missions in Stockholm. In May, 2019, Republic of China (Taiwan) legalized same-sex marriage, with the passage of legislation that gay couples have the right to marry. To celebrate this, a float representing Taiwan participated in the Pride Parade this year, sponsored by Taipei Mission in Sweden.
About 60 overseas Taiwanese participated in the event, among others Yuying Lee, President of The Council of Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce in Europe; Jenny Chen, Vice President of the Formosa förening as well as Pei-Tsung Dai, President of the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce in Sweden. The event started at the Stockholm City Hall, proceeded along the city center and ended at Östermalms IP.
The Taiwanese float was decorated based on the theme of a traditional Taiwanese wedding. The participants had wedding nametags such as "Wedding host", "Wedding witness", "Usher", "Groomsman", "Bridesmaid" and "Flower Girl/ Flower Boy" and gave wedding candy to people along the way. The slogan of the banners on both sides of the float were "First country in Asia to legalize same sex marriage", and the marchers held the banner "TAIWAN First country in Asia to legalize same sex marriage" in front of the float. The event lasted about 3 hours.
