Taiwan’s horticultural industry has flourished over the years. Statistical figures from the Taiwan Floriculture Export Association (TFEA) revealed that export of flowers and flower seeds have tripled in value over the decade, from US$48 million in 1999 to US$111 million in year 2009. Orchid flowers, in particular, accounted for 80% of the export value and constituted 20% of the total flower exports by quantity. Taiwan has since replaced Thailand in year 2005 as the world’s premier exporters of orchid flowers.
