There will be a great amount of important changes in the application of 2012 Taiwan scholarship. The changes made are the followings:
1. Due to the fact that from 2012 on, the Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) will only be tested in November, those applicants who would like to apply for the 2012 Taiwan Scholarship has to take basic or above level Chinese test, which will be held on April 25th and November 20th, 2011. Those who have taken and passed the intermediate or above level test will be of priority in the selection process. 2. Application should only be made to universities on the list of “Taiwan Scholarship University Alliance” (as attached).
3. Amount of Scholarship:
(1)Tuition and incidental fee will be paid for by the Ministry of education and the university that the scholarship student is attending. The incidental fee does not include handling charges, paper instruction, insurance, boarding, or Internet fees, … etc.
(2) A stipend of NT$15,000 (about US$500) per month will be provided for each Thai student who is pursuing undergraduate study at university/college in Taiwan for a duration of 4 years. Master and Ph.D. scholarships: A stipend of NT$20,000 (about US$670) per month will be provided for each Thai student who is pursuing masters degree, for a duration of 2 years or Ph.D. degrees, for a duration of 4 years in Taiwan. Recipients will be responsible for their own accommodation, air ticket, insurance and other miscellaneous expenses.
4. Those who are studying under the scholarship and wish to pursue next level of study should apply to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand for the scholarship before 28th February each year; however, the added up duration of obtaining the scholarship should not exceed five years.
5. LEP program will no longer be available.
6. Applicants should provide two recommendation letters from university president/school principal, professor or teacher.
7. Those who have retained registration in a university in Taiwan can not apply for the scholarship; however, graduates can apply for the scholarship for further studying.
8. In order to continue on obtaining the scholarship, bachelor degree students have to maintain at least a GPA of 70; masters and above students have to maintain at least a GPA of 80.
9. Scholarship students can not work (be it part time or full time) without permission from the Ministry of Education, Taiwan. Once a scholarship student is found working without permission from the Ministry of Education, the scholarship will be revoked and the student will have to give back full amount of scholarship they have already obtained since the day they started to work. Illegal workers will be pursued according to the law.
