From 1-26 August, ‘Taiwan Season’ participated for the fifth consecutive year in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, with four groups showcasing Taiwan’s best dance and theatre. This year was a great success, with all four shows receiving critical acclaim from several mainstream UK media outlets including The List, Broadway Baby, The Scotsman and The Times. One of the four shows, Tjimur Dance Theatre’s ‘Varhung: Heart to Heart’, received a nomination for ‘Best Dance’ at the prestigious Total Theatre Awards. In addition, Chang Dance Theatre’s ‘Bon 4 Bon’ was shortlisted for the ‘Asian Arts Award’, and was ranked as one of the top 20 shows of the entire festival by The Guardian.
Representative Lin and his wife were accompanied by Cultural Director Cheryl Lai, TRO Edinburgh Office Director-General Jason C.C. Lien and other TRO personnel to participate in Taiwan Season activities from 6-8 August, including marching with performers in a parade down the Royal Mile. Representative Lin also spoke at the Taiwan Season launch party, which was attended by approximately 200 festival goers and prominent figures from the Scottish art scene. Notable attendees included Edinburgh Festival Fringe CEO Shona McCarthy, Dance Base Artistic Director Morag Deyes MBE, Summerhall Programme Manager Verity Leigh and Taiwan's National Culture and Art Foundation Chairwoman Mun-Lee Lin.
