On 21 June, Taiwan’s Tang Prize, widely regarded as the Nobel of Asia, announced that UK and world-renowned legal philosopher, Professor Joseph Raz, was awarded the 2018 Tang Prize in Rule of Law. Praised by the Tang Prize as one of the foremost legal philosophers of our time, Professor Raz was awarded the prize for his path-breaking contributions to the rule of law, and for deepening our understanding of the very nature of law, legal reasoning and the relationship between law, morality and freedom, according to the Tang Prize. The Tang Prize was established by Taiwanese entrepreneur Dr Samuel Yin in 2012 to encourage individuals across the world to chart new paths to achieving sustainable development by recognising and supporting contributors for their work in four major fields: Sustainable Development, Bio-pharmaceutical Science, Sinology and Rule of Law.
On 3 July, Representative Lin received the award-winning legal philosopher at the TRO to offer his heartfelt congratulations. On behalf of the Tang Prize, Representative Lin also again extended an invitation to Professor Raz to attend the upcoming award ceremony taking place on 21 September in Taipei. Representative Lin was later invited by Professor Raz to visit his London residence on 22 August and further exchange ideas on Taiwan’s development and cross-Strait relations.
