Three Taiwanese writers participate in Edinburgh International Book Festival

Famous Taiwanese authors Wu Ming-Yi, Hsiao-Hung Pai and Lin Man-Chiu were invited to discuss their works at the 2018 Edinburgh International Book Festival, which took place from 11-27 August. On 19 August, Wu Ming-Yi was joined in conversation by authors Mary Lynn-Bracht and Lee Randall to discuss the underlying themes of his 2018 Man Booker International Prize long-listed novel, The Stolen Bicycle. Award-winning author and journalist Hsiao-Hung Pai also talked about her 2016 book Bordered Lives: How Europe Fails Refugees at several events in the Edinburgh International Book Festival. Festival Director Nick Barley described the author’s discussion on 23 August as one of the most important and special events that he has organised since his tenure. On 13 August, critically-acclaimed Taiwanese Young Adult novelist Lin Man-Chiu was joined by fellow novelist Paul Magrs to discuss the inspiration behind her book, The Ventriloquist’s Daughter, which is the first of her works to be translated into English.
