On November 10, Taiwanese doctoral candidate Wen-chi Li and Scottish poet Colin Bramwell were awarded the prestigious John Dryden Translation Award by the British Comparative Literature Association (BCLA) for their translation of Taiwanese poet Yang Mu’s work. To mark this occasion, the event “Taiwan In Poetry, Poetry In Taiwan: Readings in Taiwanese Poetry” was held on November 12 at the School of Oriental & African Studies (SOAS) in collaboration with the Centre for Cultural, Literary and Postcolonial Studies (CCLPS). The sold out event featured readings of the award-winning translations of Yang Mu’s poems, including ‘Departure’, alongside the works of Taiwanese poets Chen Li, Hsia Yu and Hsiang-Hai Ching. After the London event, Wen-chi Li and Colin Brownwell also delivered a talk at the Trinity Centre for Literary and Cultural Translation, a department of the historic Trinity College Dublin.
