Recipients of the 38th Golden Tripod Awards for Publications were unveiled by the Ministry of Culture Aug. 13 in Taipei City, honoring outstanding local books, magazines and publishers.

“Embracing and promoting the values of humanity are an import aspect of the awards,” MOC Minister Lung Ying-tai said during the ceremony. “This year’s winners perfectly reflect this focus.”

“The awards will continue encouraging excellent publications upholding environmental justice, civil participation and values speaking for the disadvantaged.”

Book and Magazine Publication of the Year awards went respectively to “Voices Refusing to Be Forgotten: An Oral History on the Environmental Record of Radio Corporation of America in Taiwan” published by Flaneur Culture Lab and CommonWealth Parenting by CommonWealth Group. The latter also won Best Education and Learning Magazine.

Rex How, founder of Locus Publishing Co., claimed the Special Contribution Award for his lifetime commitment to the publishing industry. “How has worked to build Taiwan into the publishing hub of the Chinese language world since taking part in the Frankfurt Book Fair in 1989. The local publishing sector is indebted to him for his contributions,” Lung said.

The Book Design and Non-fiction Recommendation awards went to “The Chapel of Kung-Tung: An Education Legend in the Coastal Range of Taiwan” published by Motif Press. And Best Financial Magazine Award was given to 30 Monthly by CommonWealth Group.
