Welcome to invest in Taipei!
2019年3月21日台北市柯文哲市長參加大亞特蘭大商會理事會歡迎會致詞稿
Ladies and Gentlemen, Good Morning!
Taipei is the most international city in Taiwan, and also the first choice for international companies looking to invest in Taiwan. Taipei has 27 colleges and universities, more than 10 large research institutions, and 30 incubation centers . In 2018, Taipei was home to a total of 237,523 companies, and tertiary industry accounted for 81.47% of the city’s turnover . The industrial structure is mainly high-tech industries, of which ICT , e-commerce and bio-tech industries have the greatest advantages and potential. Currently, 7,896 ICT companies have established their offices in Taipei City, with the capital of 20.4 billion US dollars. Taipei attracts investments from multinational companies such as Intel, Google, Tesla, Microsoft, HP, and Cisco. In 2018, Taipei City had 2,487 registered foreign businesses and 8.8 billion US dollars of investment, accounting for 70% of the total foreign investment in Taiwan.
In recent years, Taipei City has built R&D-oriented high-tech industrial corridors and has introduced innovation to existing industrial clusters in Neihu (內湖) Technology Park and Nangang (南港) Software Park. Taipei City has helped to upgrade and strengthen the industrial clusters. We have also promoted the Nangang (南港) industrial cluster, including bio-tech and MICE industries, the Greater Neihu (內湖) Science Park (ICT and start-up), the Beitou Shilin (北投士林) Technology Park (healthcare and digital industries), and the Yuanshan (圓山) startup cluster (digital contents, MICE, and fashion industries). Taipei extends the energy of the industrial corridors, follows the overall industrial development trend, and promotes forward-looking industries. Regarding future industrial experiments, we wish to promote industrial development, create economic benefits, and accelerate the development of our industrial corridors.
At the same time, Taipei provides various services and incentives to encourage innovative investment, to develop forward-looking new industries, and to promote the development of industries that we have advantage like bio-tech and ICT as well as service sectors like MICE, design, and fashion industries. Taipei is also focusing on improving the business environment, strengthening international linkages, creating a friendly environment of innovation and creativity, and supporting all enterprises to create new opportunities for development.
Currently, the Importers and Exporters Association of Taipei has nearly 6,000 members working in Taipei and cooperating with other major cities in Taiwan. It is the largest and most influential business group in Taiwan.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the sister city relationship between Taipei and Atlanta. The Metro Atlanta Chamber is the largest industrial and commercial group in the state of Georgia and covers the ninth-largest market in United States. I would be very happy to see the two groups to establish a communication platform to create global business opportunities together.
Last but not least, Taipei will continue to strengthen and promote the business environment, the trade and investment activities through overseas marketing and investment events. Taipei is also operating the Invest Taipei Office (ITO) to provide one-stop, customized service to minimize any barriers to investment. You are all welcome to invest in Taipei!
