The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Atlanta hosted the first Taiwan Michelin Night dinner event on August 21 at Director General Vincent Liu’s official residence in Buckhead. Two well-known Taiwanese chefs, Tony Huang and Amo Liang, flew directly from Taiwan to prepare the dinner.
In his remarks, DG Liu thanked all the guests for their friendship and longtime support for Taiwan. DG Liu also noted that the first Michelin Guide to Taipei was introduced to the public on March 14, 2018. Twenty Taipei restaurants were awarded a total of 24 Michelin stars. Furthermore, DG Liu emphasized that 2019 will be the 40th anniversary of the sister-city alliance between Taipei and Atlanta. TECO Atlanta and the local Taiwanese community, in conjunction with the City of Atlanta, will host different events to celebrate the anniversary. Deputy Director General Daniel Hung led the prayer before dinner.
To honor the “Georgia Grown” project, all ingredients were sourced locally. Chef Tony Huang demonstrated “Lobster Sung wrapped in Hydroponic Lettuce”, and Amo Liang demonstrated “Glazed Georgia Peach Topped with Pecans” to the guests.
Distinguished guests included Dr. Tom Price, former Secretary of Health and Human Services, officials from Georgia state government and the City of Atlanta, senior officers of the Coca-Cola Company and Sun Trust Bank; Commissioner of Taiwan’s Overseas Community Affairs Commission (OCAC) Dr. Ray Wang and Dr. Sue-Ling Wang; OCAC Advisor Been-Chuan Lee; and Taiwanese Junior Chamber of Commerce of Georgia co-presidents Dean Wang and Alex Day.
