2019 marks the 40th anniversary of Atlanta and Taipei Sister Cityhood. To commemorate this important landmark, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Atlanta held the Taipei-Atlanta Sister City Logo design award competition from September through November, 2018. The Award Ceremony was held in Taipei City by Mayor Ko Wen-je on January 15, 2019.
The first prize design of “Renewal Friendship of Taipei and Atlanta” by Chin Hsu highlights landmarks from the skylines of both cities. It also combines the number 40 as the shape of the logo, which indicates the 40th anniversary. Taipei landmark buildings include Sun-Yet Sun Memorial Hall, Taipei 101, Taipei Old North Gate, Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, and the Grand Hotel. Atlanta landmarks include 191 Peachtree Tower, Sun Trust Plaza, Bank of America Plaza, and One Atlantic Center.
Taipei and Atlanta signed their sister city accord in November 5, 1979 by former President Lee Teng-hui (then the Mayor of Taipei) and Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson.
