Director General and Mrs. Vincent Liu and officers of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Atlanta attended the Lunar New Year celebration banquet held by CCC at the Westin Atlanta Perimeter North on February 13th.
In his remarks, DG Liu noted that 2019 marks the 40th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act. It was an act passed to help maintain peace, security, and stability in the Western Pacific and to promote the foreign policy of the United States by authorizing the continuation of commercial, cultural, and other relations between the people of the United States and the people on Taiwan. 2019 also marks the 40th anniversary of Taipei-Atlanta Sister Cityhood. TECO Atlanta will be celebrating the sister cityhood relationship with year-long celebration activities.
More than 400 guests attended the banquet. Special guests included: Dr. Tom Price, former US Secretary of Health and Human Services, and Mrs. Betty Price; Kim Young-jun, Korean Consul General; Matt Dollar, Georgia House Representative; Bud Whitmire, US Congressman Tom Grave’s State Deputy Director; Andy Bush, US Congressman Drew Ferguson’s State Director; Charlotte Nash, Gwinnett County Chairwoman; Mike Boyce, Cobb County Chairman; Bob Ellis, Vice Chairman, Fulton County Board of Commissioners; Paulina Guzman, Atlanta City Global Engagement Officer; and Tom Oder, Publisher of World Wide Editing.
DG Liu presented a special honor to Representative Matt Dollar for his long-term support for Taiwan.
