Scott Lai Congratulates Newly-elected New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu
On behalf of the government and people of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Director-General Scott Lai, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston, and Deputy Director May Lin were invited to congratulate newly-elected New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu at his inaugural ceremony on January 5. At the ceremony, Mr. Lai and Consul General Harriet Cross, British Consulate General Boston, are welcomed by name. After the ceremony, Director- General Lai extended his personal congratulations to Governor Sununu and First Lady Valerie Sununu, and expressed Taiwan’s interest to continue the close relations and future cooperation with New Hampshire on trade, education, and other areas.
The ceremony began at 10:00 a.m. and was chaired by State House Speaker Shawn Jasper, accompanied by Senate President Chuck Morse. Also in attendance were former Governor John H. Sununu and Craig Benson, former U.S. Senator of Massachusetts Scott Brown, and former U.S. Senator of New Hampshire Kelly Ayotte.
Taiwan and New Hampshire share a close relationship. Taiwan is New Hampshire’s ninth largest export market, with exports totaling $35 million. Main exports to Taiwan include machinery and electronics. Manchester, New Hampshire’s largest city, and Taichung are also sister cities. There are about 100 Taiwanese students studying in New Hampshire, primarily enrolled at Southern New Hampshire University.
