Director-General Jonathan Sun of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston (TECO-Boston) visited the City of Medford to attend the donation ceremony of 2,500 surgical masks on August 28. The masks were donated by the Brookline Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce (BTCC) and will be distributed to the Medford and Malden senior centers.
The Chamber was represented by President Sharon Hong. Massachusetts House of Representatives Second Assistant Majority Leader Paul J. Donato, Asian-American Caucus Chairman Donald Wong, Massachusetts House Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight Vice Chair Sean Garballey, Medford Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn, and City of Medford Director of Elder Affairs Pamela Kelly joined the ceremony. Attendees thanked the BTCC for its generosity, as the surgical masks will help safeguard the health of local senior citizens.
Director-General Sun shared Taiwan’s achievement in fighting against COVID-19 and the key to its success. In addition, he also took the opportunity to inform those attending that the Taiwan government has announced the decision to lift restrictions on the importation of U.S. beef and pork to Taiwan which fully demonstrates Taiwan’s determination to further enhance trade relations with the U.S. A bilateral trade agreement (BTA) between Taiwan and the U.S. would serve the best interests of both countries, he said.
