Director-General Jonathan Sun of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston (TECO-Boston) visited the nation’s second oldest city hall and witchcraft capital Salem, MA on September 4 to witness the donation of 2,500 surgical masks of the Brookline Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce (BTCC), represented by President Sharon Hong, to Salem City Hall.
Participating elected officials included Massachusetts Senate Assistant Majority Leader Joan B. Lovely, Chairman Donald Wong of the Asian American Caucus, Massachusetts Vice Chair of the Joint Committee on Education Rep. Paul Tucker, and Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll.
As Salem is at YELLOW COVID-19 alert level, attendees thanked the BTCC for the timely delivery of life-saving masks for senior citizens and residents.
Director-General Sun shared Taiwan’s successful pandemic response. He also noted that Taiwan hopes to sign a bilateral trade agreement (BTA) with the United States in the near future, further strengthening trade relations among Taiwan, the U.S. and Massachusetts. In his recorded video celebrating the 109th National Day of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Vice Chair Tucker clearly expresses his support for the Taiwan-U.S. BTA.
