Director-General Jonathan Sun of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston (TECO-Boston) visited Salisbury on September 15 for the donation of 2,500 surgical masks on behalf of the Brookline Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce (BTCC). The masks will be given to senior citizens and first responders in Salisbury, Newburyport, and Amesbury.
Elected officials present included Massachusetts Joint Committee on Community Development and Small Business Chairwoman and Senator Diana DiZoglio, Chairman and Representative Donald Wong of the Asian American Caucus, Representative James Kelcourse, Salisbury Mayor Neil Harrington, Newburyport Mayor Donna Holaday, Amesbury Mayor Kassandra Gove, Newburyport Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Frank Cousins, and other community members. The BTCC’s generous gift was deeply appreciated by the attendees.
Representative Kelcourse presented a citation to the BTCC on behalf of the Massachusetts House of Representatives. The Town of Salisbury also expressed thanks to TECO-Boston with a citation.
Director-General Sun explained in detail the contribution that Taiwan has made to assist the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, stressing that Taiwan can help and is helping. He noted that Taiwan hopes to sign a bilateral trade agreement (BTA) with the United States in the near future, expanding economic trade between Taiwan, the United States, and Massachusetts. In a show of support, attendees wished Taiwan a happy birthday ahead of the 109th National Day of the Republic of China (Taiwan) on October 10.
