On January 1, 2021, representatives from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in (Boston TECO-Boston), the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in the New England area, and local guests held the annual flag raising ceremony at the Hyde Community Center in Newton to celebrate the first day of the 110th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
Director-General, Jonathan Sun said that due to the Covid 19 epidemic we follow the policy set by the Massachusetts state government in which only a limited number of guests were invited to participate in the celebration this year. However, the live stream is available to watch at home.
The director of the Hyde Community Center and former Newton City Councilor John Rice also gave a speech noting that he served as a city councilor for 10 years and witnessed the solid relationship between Newton and Taiwan and it is certain that it will continue well into the further.
After the ceremony, Director-General Sun took the opportunity to present a silver medal from the OCAC to a representative of the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce of North America (TCCNA), in appreciation for donating face masks to the region in the "10 Million Masks, 10 Million Love" event.
