The Culture Center of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston held a calligraphy and block prints event on February 6 to celebrate the upcoming Year of the Ox. The Niu Chuan Chian K’un spring couplets, jointly signed by President Tsai Ing-wen and Vice President Lai Ching-te, are available for free upon request. Director-General Jonathan Sun noted in his remarks that the Lunar New Year has the dual meaning of reunion and bidding farewell to the old and welcoming the new. “We have all been disturbed by the COVID-19 pandemic during the Year of the Rat. I hope that with the coming of the Year of Ox, we’ll all enjoy a fresh new beginning.” In observance of the gathering limits imposed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, only a limited number of guests were invited to participate in this year’s celebration.
