The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York is pleased to announce that the Taiwan Fellowship 2020 application deadline is extended to July 20, 2019.
The Fellowship was established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to encourage experts and scholars who are interested in topics related to Taiwan, cross-strait relations, the Asia-Pacific region and Sinology to conduct advanced research in Taiwan for three to twelve months.
Recipients will be granted a monthly stipend of approximately US$1,600-US$1,900 and a complimentary round-trip economy-class air ticket.
Research topics related to Taiwan’s participation in regional economic integration, New Southbound Policy, regional security, combating disinformation and gender studies are highly welcomed.
The minimum duration of a fellowship is three months and the maximum one year. The Fellowship must be completed between January and December 2020.
Eligibility
Foreign nationals who are professors, associate professors, assistant professors, post-doctoral researchers, doctoral candidates or doctoral program students at related departments of overseas universities, or are research fellows at an equivalent level in academic institutions abroad.
Financial assistance
- Monthly stipends are as follows:
- Professors, associate professors, research fellows, or associate research fellows: NT$60,000;
- Assistant professors, assistant research fellows, post-doctoral researchers, doctoral candidates, doctoral program students: NT$50,000.
- One direct round-trip economy-class air ticket between the country of residence and Taiwan.
- Accident insurance of NT$1 million and an additional NT$50,000 for medical treatment in any one accident.
Application Deadline: July 20, 2019
The application period is from May 1 to June 30, 2019. Applicants whose universities or affiliated institutes are based in the states of Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania should send their applications to this office. Shortlisted candidates will be notified in October 2019.

- Application Form (Please print the completed online application form).
- Resume (including publication list).
- Research proposal (three pages in principle using a standard research format).
- Two letters of recommendation or one letter of recommendation and one letter of consent from the highest administrator of the applicant’s affiliated institute.
