The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York is pleased to announce a virtual dance exchange project between Taiwanese contemporary dance choreographers Hao Cheng and Wei-Chia Su, and Japanese butoh artists Kentaro Kujirai and Barabbas Okuyama.
As a joint collaboration between Taipei Cultural Center in New York and Japan Society, the seven-month Contemporary Dance Choreographers’ Virtual Exchange brought these four emerging choreographers together to explore new ways of dancing—all without sharing a physical space during the pandemic. Since September 2020, the choreographers and their respective dance company members met once a month virtually to conduct joint workshops.
A series of short video diaries filmed at the monthly workshops will be available online starting April 21, and a pre-recorded virtual roundtable discussion between the choreographers will premiere on April 28.
