A sought-after textile designer from Taipei, Ms. Grace Hsieh, held a successful exhibition opening at the Brooklyn Theatre on the 14th of July. Her exhibition entitled, 'Eye Catching Taipei Street Series 1' was well received by the numerous fashion industry players and other guests in attendance.
In collaboration with the Taipei Liaison Office and CANSA, it is the first time the highly regarded Ms. Hsieh has held an exhibition in Pretoria. With numerous successful exhibitions in Taiwan, Canada, Japan and China under her belt, Ms. Hsieh said she was excited to show off her designs to the local community.
One of the distinguished guests at the exhibition was Mr. Clive Rundle, South Africa's most recognised and awarded fashion designer. Ms. Hseih's textiles will be heading to Mr. Rundle's studio once the exhibition is over and will be transformed in to his magnificent, one-of-a-kind creations.
When asked what the inspiration behind her collection was, Ms. Hsieh said, "The elements of a city street scene should be mostly square and rectangular. That is the mathematical ideal, but in nature it is imperfect. The repeated elements follow the ideal in a loose sense by not always being identical, but instead just similar."
The textile exhibition will run alongside the works of art by five other artists at the Brooklyn Theatre until the 20th of August.
