For the academic year 2026/27, Taiwan’s Ministry of Education (MOE) is offering scholarships totaling 72 months in duration. These are divided into scholarships of 3, 6, 9, and 12 months for Austrian, Slovenian, and Croatian citizens and are intended for the study of Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese culture under the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship program.
Value of the Scholarship:
Monthly grant: 28,000 New Taiwan Dollars (approx. 750€, the exchange rate might change).
Attention: fees like travel expenses, tuition fees and health insurance, etc. are not paid additionally.
Scholarship Period:
3-month scholarship: one trimester in the 2026/27 academic year (September–November; December–February; March–May; June–August)
6-month scholarship: 1 September 2026 to 28 February 2027, 1 December 2026 to 31 May 2027, or 1 March to 31 August 2027
9-month scholarship: 1 September 2026 to 31 May 2027, or 1 December 2026 to 31 August 2027
12-month scholarship: 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2027
Please note: The dates listed above refer to the periods during which the scholarship is paid. The actual start and end dates of the language courses may differ slightly.
Application Qualifications:
- Austrian, Croatian or Slovenian citizenship
- Students are not eligible to apply if they
- have already received a Taiwan or Huayu Enrichment Scholarship in the past.
- are currently enrolled in a language or degree program in Taiwan.
- will be part of a student’s exchange-program in the academic year 2026/27.
- possess a Republic of China passport or are overseas Chinese students.

- Headshot photo that is no older than three months
- Copy of passport and, if possible, proof of citizenship
- Copy of the completed application form for the language center of a Taiwanese university (see homepages of the respective universities or on www.studyintaiwan.org/chinese or on taiwanscholarship.moe.gov.tw)
- Copy of proof of highest completed education or diploma certificate (English)
- Copy of recent transcripts from school or university
- Two letters of recommendation (in Chinese, German or English)
- General study plan (“letter of motivation”) for your stay in Taiwan (in Chinese, German or English)
- [optional] TOCFL (Test of Chinese as a foreign language) confirmation of application or participation

Application Guide for Students
Submission deadline: 01 February to 15 April 2026
After the successful submission of all application materials, applicants will be invited to an interview in May 2026 (online, via webcam) with the Education Division in Austria. The list of candidates will be published until the end of May 2026. Candidates are required to submit their admission letters issued by the language center of the university together with the original, signed “Huayu Enrichment Scholarship Terms of Agreement” to the Education Division in Austria by mid-June 2026.
