For the academic year 2026/27, the Ministry of Education of Taiwan (MOE) is offering 3 scholarship places for Austrian, Croatian and Slovenian citizens. This scholarship is intended to support a full degree program (Mandarin Chinese or English language of instruction) with the intention to complete the entire study period in Taiwan. To select an English language program, please refer to the document “List of Universities with English Degree Programs”.
Scholarship:
- Each scholarship will cover the tuition fees up to NTD 40.000 for one academic semester (everything above has to be covered by the recipient; some universities provide additional tuition support; part-time jobs are allowed with permission)
- Flight tickets, health insurance as well as administration fees, thesis advising fees, insurance premiums, accommodation and Internet access, etc. are not paid additionally
- Monthly subsistence allowance:
- Undergraduate study: 15,000 NTD / approx. 400 EUR, (the exchange rate might change)
- Master or PhD study: NTD 20,000 / approx. 530 EUR (the exchange rate might change)
Scholarship Period and duration
First academic year: September 2026 through August 2027
- Maximum length of stay for Bachelor's and PhD students: four years
- maximum length of stay for Master's students: two years
- maximum scholarship duration: five years (e.g. BA+MA or MA+PhD)
If students complete the academic year in accordance with the scholarship guidelines, the extension of the scholarship will be approved by the university and the MOE.
Requirements for qualification:
- Austrian/Croatian/Slovenian citizenship
- Students who are R.O.C. nationals, overseas Chinese students or possess an Alien Permanent Resident Certificate of ROC are not eligible
- General University entrance qualification
- Applicants are ineligible if they meet the following criteria:
- Students who already received a scholarship from the TW government or any educ. institution in TW for the study year 2026/27, as well as students currently studying in TW are not eligible to apply for the same or lower academic degree
- Students who are part of a student’s exchange-program in the academic year 2026/27

Application documents (to be uploaded online on https://taiwanscholarship.moe.gov.tw/Apply):
- Headshot photo that is no older than three months
- Copy of passport and, if possible, proof of citizenship
- Copy of proof of general qualification for university entrance or certificate of highest academic degree (English)
- Copy of recent transcripts from school or university
- Two letters of recommendation (Chinese, German or English)
- Study plan (“letter of motivation”) for the stay in Taiwan (Chinese, German or English)
- Copy of proof of language proficiency:
- Applicants for studies in Chinese: TOCFL test Level 3 / Band B; (more information on TOCFL: TOCFL Ljubljana or TOCFL Vienna).)
- Applicants for studies in English: Proof of English language proficiency by means of a copy of a recognized English language certificate or diploma from an educational institution in an English-speaking country (please note that some Taiwanese universities only accept a TOEFL certificate as proof).
- Copy of the completed application form for the preferred Taiwanese university and copies of admission application materials to universities/colleges in Taiwan (Please be aware of different application deadlines and possible entrance examinations: www.studyintaiwan.org. To be on the safe side, please apply to more universities to definitely receive an admission letter). Applicants must apply to universities independently.

Application Guide for Students
Submission Deadline: 01 February to 15 April 2026
After the successful submission of all application materials, applicants will be invited to an interview in May 2026 (online, via webcam) with the Education Division in Austria. The list of candidates will be published until the end of May. Candidates are required to submit admission letters issued by the preferred Taiwanese universities together with the original, signed copy of the “Taiwan scholarship terms of agreement” to the Education Division in Vienna by mid-June 2026.
