Trade portfolio manifests complementarity in supply chain
In 2019, Taiwan was Australia's sixth-largest merchandise export market and 15th-largest source of merchandise imports. Australia's merchandise exports to Taiwan were worth US$10.1 billion, up by 5.34 per cent year-on-year. Major imports were coal, natural gas, iron ore and copper. Also, Australia has become a major exporter of agricultural products to Taiwan, with meat, wheat and dairy being major items. Merchandise imports from Taiwan were worth US$3.2 billion.
New accord to promote organic food trade
Australian and Taiwan signed Organic Equivalency Arrangement in January 2020, with the aim of widening export markets and smoothening organic certification processes both way.
De-crowned pineapples on the way to Australian market
After five years’ consultations, Australia has opened its door to imports of Taiwan-grown de-crowned pineapples in March 2020.
