Other Considerations for Marriage Certificate Verification
1 Chinese Name Declaration( for Foreign Spouse Unable to Personally Apply for Marriage Registration in Taiwan)
  1. When a Taiwanese citizen and a foreign national apply for marriage certificate verification, the foreign spouse must have a Chinese name that complies with Taiwan's naming conventions as specified in the Name Act, if they intend to return to Taiwan for marriage registration.
  2. If the foreign spouse is unable to come to Taiwan in person to apply for marriage registration, a "Chinese Name Declaration" must be provided, certifying the authenticity of the foreign spouse’s signature by the nearest overseas diplomatic mission.
  3. The applicant must submit the application in person. If this is not possible, and the application is mailed, the applicant must have their signature notarized by a Notary Public in the local area, and also pay the required fees.
2 Applicants Requiring an Interview for Verification For couples where one party is a Mainland Chinese national, the following documents must be submitted:

  1. Application form with payment of required fees and prepaid return envelope.
  2. A statement describing the relationship, including proof such as photos.
  3. The applicant’s Mainland Chinese passport and ID card (original and copies).
  4. The Taiwanese spouse's Republic of China passport and ID card (original and copies).
  5. After the office receives the physical documents, if no additional documents are needed, an interview appointment will be scheduled.
  6. Based on the interview results, the marriage certificate verification will proceed.
Marriage between Taiwanese Nationals and Nationals of Specific CountriesAccording to the ⌈ Guidelines for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Overseas Missions on Processing Marriage Applications Between Foreign Nationals and Taiwanese Nationals for Interview in Taiwan ⌋, a Taiwanese national intending to marry a citizen of a specific country must first complete the marriage registration in the foreign national’s home country. Afterward, they must prepare the marriage certificate and apply for an interview at the designated overseas mission. Once the marriage certificate is verified by the overseas mission, the applicant can proceed to register the marriage with the domestic household registration office. For detailed instructions, please refer to ⌈ Marriage Procedures for Taiwanese Nationals with Household Registration in Taiwan and Nationals from Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Myanmar ⌋ as well as the ⌈ procedures for specific-country spouses applying for a dependent visa to Taiwan
