Ambassador Douglas Hsu attended the premiere of the "Taiwan Episode" of The Airport Economist at the New South Wales (NSW) Parliament on 27 March. The program, featuring Deputy Foreign Minister François Chihchung WU and leading Taiwanese industry figures, highlights Taiwan’s economic strengths and conveys the positive message that “Growth and prosperity over geopolitics: the CPTPP is stronger with Taiwan.”
In his remarks, Ambassador Hsu emphasized the highly complementary nature of the Taiwan-Australia economic relationship, noting that Taiwan’s accession to the CPTPP would make it a reliable and open economic partner in the Indo-Pacific, contributing to regional growth.
Australian dignitaries in attendance praised Taiwan’s role in the global supply chain and affirmed shared values of democracy and freedom. They called for stronger economic ties between Taiwan and Australia, and expressed support for Taiwan’s CPTPP bid as a catalyst for shared prosperity and economic momentum. The office will continue to promote Taiwan’s capacity and willingness to contribute to the CPTPP’s success and uphold the rules-based trading system.
Taiwan hopes to build consensus among members and begin the accession working group process as soon as possible.
The episode is now available on The Airport Economist website, YouTube channel, and streaming platforms such as Ticker News.
