Deputy Representative Regine Chen had the honour of opening a remarkable event at the Australian Centre on China in the World (CIW), welcoming guests to a special lecture by Dr. Paelabang Danapan, titled "Singing with the Pen: Literature as a Form of Cultural Defense."
The event, part of the ANU Taiwan Studies Program—a collaboration between Taiwan’s Ministry of Education and the Australian National University—brought together a wide and engaged audience. In her opening remarks, Ms. Chen warmly encouraged continued interest in Taiwan’s rich cultural and academic exchange with Australia.
Dr. Danapan, a renowned Indigenous writer, spoke eloquently on the importance of language in preserving the culture and identity of Taiwan’s Indigenous Peoples. His lecture, interpreted by Adam Young, resonated deeply with attendees.
Following the talk, Dr. Danapan donated several of his published works, including Mountain–Sea World (《山海世界》), to the CIW library. He also delighted students with a live calligraphy demonstration and gifted several of his pieces to the audience—a generous gesture that made the event even more memorable.
