The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Australia, in collaboration with the Australian Centre for International Trade and Investment (ACITI), successfully co-hosted the “Taiwan–Australia Low-Carbon Technology and Energy Security Supply Chain Resilience Roundtable Forum” on 29 May in Perth, Western Australia. The forum focused on key low-carbon technologies such as hydrogen energy and green steel, and served as a platform for meaningful dialogue and exchange among government, industry, and academic stakeholders from both Taiwan and Australia.
In his remarks, Ambassador Douglas Hsu underscored the strong complementarity between Taiwan and Australia. He emphasized that Taiwan possesses advanced manufacturing capabilities and technological innovation, while Australia is endowed with abundant renewable energy resources. In light of global decarbonization and energy transition challenges, Ambassador Hsu called for closer Taiwan–Australia cooperation to establish a trustworthy and resilient regional supply chain. He also urged Australia, as the current chair of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), to support Taiwan’s accession to the agreement, thereby advancing sustainable and inclusive development in the Indo-Pacific region.
The forum also featured pre-recorded messages from representatives of Taiwan’s Bureau of Energy and National Science and Technology Council, who shared progress and future prospects in areas such as hydrogen energy, green steel, and scientific collaboration. These contributions highlighted the mutual trust and shared vision between Taiwan and Australia in advancing energy diplomacy and the global low-carbon transformation.
