Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Ming-chi gave interviews with Sky News Australia, The Australian Financial Review, and the “Asia Rising” podcast of La Trobe University’s Asia Centre, emphasizing the significance of Taiwan’s bid to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and expressing concern over China’s continued regional expansion. He stressed that Taiwan is a strong trading state and, despite not being a member of the WHO during the COVID-19 pandemic, has contributed actively to global efforts, demonstrating its readiness to uphold a free, fair, and high-standard trading order through CPTPP participation.
Deputy Minister Chen highlighted Taiwan’s approach to “de-risking” by reducing reliance on a single market and ensuring stability in the global semiconductor supply chain. He emphasized that Taiwan’s accession would strengthen the CPTPP, noting that Taiwan and Australia share common values of free trade and a rules-based economic order. By working together, the two sides can foster a more resilient and sustainable economic future.
