Ambassador Hsu Marks 10th Anniversary of Taiwan-Australia SIKA Collaboration
The 10th anniversary of the Cold Neutron Triple-axis Spectrometer SIKA, designed and built by Taiwan at ANSTO in Sydney, was celebrated with opening remarks by Ambassador Douglas Hsu and Dr. Chen-Kang Su, Chairman of the Taiwan National Synchrotron Radiation Research Center (NSRRC). The event brought together neutron science experts from Taiwan and abroad to reflect on past achievements and explore future international research opportunities. Ambassador Hsu also toured the OPAL Reactor, learning about its applications in materials research, medical isotope production, and material analysis.
SIKA has achieved 99% average availability, making it the most stable cold neutron triple-axis spectrometer in the Asia-Pacific. Taiwanese research teams using SIKA have published studies in semiconductors, green energy, polymers, and biomedical materials, demonstrating its vital role in materials science and fundamental physics. Ambassador Hsu emphasized that Taiwan and Australia are strong scientific partners and expressed hope that future bilateral cooperation will continue to build on the SIKA precedent in a sustainable manner.
