Ambassador Douglas Hsu Attends 30th Taiwan–Australia Joint Energy and Minerals, Trade and Investment Cooperation Consultations
The 30th Joint Energy and Minerals, Trade and Investment Cooperation Consultations (JEMTIC) in Canberra brought together high-level delegations from Taiwan and Australia. Vice Minister Chien-Hsin Lai of Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs led representatives from the Energy Administration, ITRI, Taipower, CPC, and CSC. Discussions focused on natural gas supply, hydrogen cooperation, green steel development, renewable energy and storage, and critical minerals and battery investment.
During the consultations, Ambassador Douglas Hsu and Representative Robert Fergusson signed the renewed Memorandum of Understanding on Taiwan–Australia Energy and Mineral Cooperation. An additional MOU between ITRI and Powering Australia was also signed. The consultations highlighted the strong complementarity between Taiwan and Australia’s industries, with Taiwan ranking as Australia’s sixth largest goods export market in 2024 and importing significant shares of LNG, coal, and iron ore from Australia.
