Ambassador Douglas Hsu underscored Taiwan’s commitment to deepening Taiwan–Australia biotechnology cooperation while attending the opening of the 2025 Australian International Biotech Conference (AusBiotech 2025) in Melbourne. In his remarks, Ambassador Hsu emphasised that the Taiwan Pavilion exemplifies Taiwan’s approach to integrated diplomacy, combining industrial strengths, innovation capacity and shared values to advance mutually beneficial partnerships with Australia.
During the opening ceremony, Ambassador Hsu witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Taiwan BioIndustry Organization (Taiwan BIO) and AusBiotech. He noted that the agreement represents an important milestone in strengthening bilateral collaboration in biotechnology innovation, research and commercialisation, and reflects the growing alignment between Taiwan and Australia in promoting sustainable and forward-looking industries.
Ambassador Hsu also highlighted the successful hosting of the inaugural “Taiwan Night” by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Australia. The event brought together leaders from Australia’s biotechnology industry, government, academia and research sectors, providing a platform for networking and the exchange of ideas on cross-border research and development. He remarked that the event demonstrated Taiwan’s value-added diplomacy in practice by facilitating concrete connections and collaboration opportunities.
AusBiotech 2025 is being held in Melbourne and features the return of the Taiwan Pavilion to the international stage. The pavilion showcases Taiwan’s latest achievements in biopharmaceuticals, smart health, regenerative medicine and green biotechnology. This year’s exhibition also coincides with the first anniversary of the Taiwan–Australia Science and Technology Cooperation Arrangement, reaffirming both sides’ commitment to strengthening scientific research collaboration and industrial linkages.
