The National Police Agency (NPA) of Taiwan and Macquarie University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on education and training cooperation on 2 March, with support and facilitation from TECO in Australia. The agreement marks a new chapter in Taiwan–Australia police education collaboration.
The MOU was signed by NPA Deputy Director-General Liao Hsun-Cheng and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Global) of Macquarie University, Anthony Cahalan. Deputy Director-General Liao stated that the partnership will enhance the professional capabilities of Taiwanese police officers in areas such as intelligence, strategy and security, criminology, and international relations, thereby strengthening efforts to combat transnational crime and safeguard regional security. Pro Vice-Chancellor Cahalan expressed his expectation that the collaboration will deepen exchanges in higher education and professional training, and help cultivate police professionals with a global perspective.
Under the agreement, the NPA will annually sponsor two outstanding police officers to pursue master’s degrees in Australia, strengthening professional training and international exposure. As one of the world’s leading destinations for higher education, Australia offers strong academic and research resources that will support the development of Taiwan’s police force. TECO in Australia will continue to serve as a bridge to promote closer cooperation in policing and security between Taiwan and Australia.
