On October 4, over 530 guests gathered at the Queensland Taiwan Centre to celebrate the 114th National Day of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Attendees included Australian dignitaries, overseas Taiwanese community leaders, business representatives, religious leaders, members of the Taiwan International Baseball Exchange Development Association, and youth ambassadors from the FASCA Brisbane Chapter and their families.
Director-General William Fan and Mrs. Fan of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Brisbane, together with Queensland Taiwan Centre Director Chun-Yung Hsu and TECO staff, joined the celebration. The ceremony was chaired by OCAC Commissioner Pauline Lo, with Amy Chen and OCAC Commissioner Shirley Hsu as vice chairs, and hosted by the Australian Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce Queensland (ATCCQ) under the leadership of President Richard Huang.
The ceremony began with the national anthems of Australia and the Republic of China, followed by the raising of both flags by FASCA youth flag bearers — a touching highlight of the morning. As the flags rose in the sunlight, the crowd waved miniature ROC flags in unison, creating a sea of red, blue, and white.
Distinguished guests included Senator Paul Scarr, Hon. Cameron Dick MP, Hon. Leanne Enoch MP, James Martin MP, Margie Nightingale MP, Cr Emily Kim, and several senior officers from the Queensland Police Service. In their remarks, they commended the shared values of democracy, freedom, and human rights between Taiwan and Australia, and praised the Taiwanese community’s contribution to Queensland’s cultural and economic development.
Director-General Fan expressed heartfelt gratitude to the organizing committee and the YFG Group for providing the venue. He highlighted Taiwan’s resilience and soft power under President Lai Ching-te’s leadership, emphasizing that Taiwan continues to promote diplomacy based on democracy, peace, and prosperity. He also reaffirmed Taiwan’s commitment to meaningful participation in international organizations such as the UN, ICAO, and CPTPP, and to deepening cooperation with Australia.
The ceremony also featured a blessing from Venerable Miao Yao of Fo Guang Shan Chung Tian Temple, a presentation of appreciation certificates to Australian community leaders, and the distribution of commemorative shirts and refreshments to attendees. The event concluded with an energetic “Ambassador Dance” performance by FASCA youth, earning enthusiastic applause and marking a successful and joyful celebration of Taiwan’s 114th National Day in Queensland.
