To celebrate the 114th National Day of the Republic of China (Taiwan), the Taiwanese Association of the Northern Territory (TANT) hosted an “I Love Taiwan” afternoon tea event on October 18 at the Darwin Botanic Gardens.
The celebration was attended by Director-General William Fan and Director Eva Wei from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Brisbane, Director Jone Hsu of the Queensland Taiwan Centre, NT Minister for Trade Robyn Cahill, MCNT Chair Dr. Edwin Joseph, OCAC Advisor Kivi Lay, and Commissioner Rui-Chu Lay, together with around 150 community members and families.
The event began with a flag escort led by children and volunteers, followed by a heartfelt singing of the national anthem. The celebration also featured a National Day greeting video from OCAC Minister Hsiao Chia-ching, and performances by children inspired by the OCAC’s “Move to Next Generation” initiative — including cheerful renditions of “Happy Paradise” and “Taiwan, You’re the Best” — symbolising the vitality and spirit of Taiwan carried on by the younger generation.
In his remarks, Director-General Fan commended President Gan and her team for their creativity and dedication in strengthening community ties and fostering the next generation’s connection to Taiwan. He also expressed gratitude for the Northern Territory’s enduring friendship and support for Taiwan’s democratic values and cultural heritage.
Guests enjoyed an afternoon of friendship, delicious refreshments, and engaging games, including a raffle and friendly competitions representing different regions of Taiwan. The celebration highlighted the unity, warmth, and pride of overseas Taiwanese families and showcased the enduring Taiwan spirit shining brightly in Australia.
