MOFA condemns the doxxing of Taiwan legislators by PRC official media outlets!
MOFA condemns the publication of satellite pictures of the home and workplace of Taiwanese legislator Puma Shen on social media platforms by PRC state-backed media outlets, aimed at intimidating Taiwanese citizens across borders.
We reiterate:
neither Taiwan nor the PRC is subordinate to the other;
the PRC has no jurisdiction over the people of Taiwan.
The contemptible doxxing tactics are clearly aimed at intimidating Taiwanese nationals, creating an atmosphere of fear and a chilling effect. They are in clear violation of international human rights norms and the right to personal privacy.
Any transnational attempts to suppress our citizenry, or that of other countries, violate international law and human rights. The government of Taiwan will do our utmost to protect the security of the Taiwanese people and will prosecute anyone who has collaborated with the PRC government in this respect.
MOFA calls on the international community to condemn the PRC in these violations of human rights and individual privacy and to join us in preventing Beijing's attempts to exercise jurisdiction beyond PRC borders.
