Celebrating the New Year with the Queensland Taiwanese Community
To welcome the New Year of the Republic of China (115), the Queensland Taiwanese community held a flag-raising ceremony on 1 January at the Taiwan Centre in Queensland. Around 500 guests—including community leaders, Australian officials, youth representatives and friends of Taiwan—gathered to celebrate the start of a new year together.
With FASCA youth ambassadors serving as flag bearers, the national anthems of Australia and the Republic of China were sung as both flags were proudly raised, creating a solemn and meaningful moment.
Director-General Fan thanked the Taiwanese community in Queensland and Australian friends for their strong support of Taiwan and reaffirmed the importance of shared democratic values. He highlighted ongoing efforts to further strengthen Taiwan–Australia cooperation across trade, culture, education, technology and people-to-people exchanges, and expressed hope for Australia’s continued support for Taiwan’s international participation.
The event concluded with vibrant Indigenous dance performances and a bamboo pole dance, inviting guests to experience Taiwan’s rich cultural heritage. A joyful and successful celebration to begin the year with unity and hope.
Wishing everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!
