On Sunday, January 29, 2012, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Melbourne held the 2012 Chinese New Year celebration. More than 80 people attended the event, including overseas compatriot group leaders, overseas Chinese school principals and editors from the media.
In her remarks, Director General Judy Wong first wished everyone peace and prosperity in the Year of the Dragon. She pointed out that the presidential campaign of the Republic of China (R.O.C.) on Taiwan ended smoothly on January 14. Dr. Ma Ying-jeou was re-elected as ROC’s President. Taiwan’s ever-deepening democracy can set a good example for Asian countries. DG Wong also mentioned President Ma’s policy directions in the next 4 years and TECO’s new year goals. Last but not the least, she thanked overseas compatriot groups for the long-lasting support they provide for the government of the R.O.C. and hoped that the overseas compatriot community continued to support the R.O.C. and TECO.
Afterwards, Overseas Compatriot Commissioners, Jason Lin and Lily Wu, as well as other group leaders said auspicious words to the audience. DG Wong delivered nomination certificate issued by President Ma to Lily Wu and congratulated Mrs. Wu on her re-election. DG Wong then awarded letter of thanks to groups which helped host celebration activities of Centennial Anniversary of the R.O.C.
Fruit and refreshments were served. Everyone was gleeful amidst an atmosphere of warmth and friendliness.
