GULF DAILY NEWS, BAHRAIN – Sunday, April 15, 2018:
His Majesty King Hamad will today lead Bahrain’s delegation to the 29th Arab League summit in Saudi Arabia.
He will leave for Dhahran today to attend the high-level session, taking place amidst complex challenges facing Arab nations.
The King will also attend the closing ceremony and military parades of the Joint Gulf Shield drill, at the invitation of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Royal Court said in a statement yesterday. The BDF is taking part in the drill.
The summit is expected to discuss the Palestine situation, the ongoing conflict in Syria and Yemen, threats posed by terrorists groups and relations with Iran.
The leaders are also expected to declare support for Lebanon, as well as well as peace and development in Sudan and Comoro Islands.
King Salman will chair the summit, which will see announcement of the ‘Dhahran Declaration’.
It will stress the need for a unified Arab stance on peace process in the region.
It will back constitutional legitimacy in Yemen and condemn Iran’s interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries.
The fate of Jerusalem will also be on the summit’s agenda, as the US prepares to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to the disputed city after declaring it the capital of Israel.
Leaders are also set to discuss counter-terrorism operations, economic and social collaboration to overcome challenges and restoration of the region’s security.
