The fifth Taiwan-EU Labor Consultation was held on 29th-30th June in Brussels. The consultation focused on promoting decent work in global supply chains. Taiwan’s Minister of Labor Ming-Chun HSU, Director-General of the Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion (DG EMPL) Joost KORTE and Ambassador Remus Li-Kuo CHEN held a high-level dialogue before the consultation, and promised to jointly address challenges in the labor market through cooperation and mutual learning, to promote decent work in global supply chains and move the related sustainable development goals forward to benefit both workers and employers.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador CHEN pointed out that the global supply chain has become a common way to organize investment, production and trade in the world economy, and has helped create many employment opportunities by boosting the economic and social development of many countries, particularly the developing countries. Promoting decent work in the global supply chain will help achieve the goals of sustainable development, he said. Finally, the Ambassador expressed his hope that Taiwan and the EU will continue to cooperate and communicate, creating a virtuous circle for sustainable development, before adding that he’s confident that both sides can become each other's most trustworthy partners through cooperation in various fields under the common values of human rights, democracy, the rule of law and sustainable development.
