Taipei, April 16 (CNA) Chinese writer Gao Xingjian, who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2000, will attend screenings of his new film in Taiwan beginning Friday, National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) said Wednesday.
Gao will attend the Taiwan premiere of his experimental film "Requiem For Beauty" at the National Palace Museum on Friday and interact with the audience, according to NTNU's Graduate Institute of Performing Arts, where Gao has served as a chair professor since 2012.
He will also appear at screenings of the movie on April 19, 20 and 23 at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts and NTNU, respectively, and participate in a forum at the university on the 23rd, according to NTNU.
The two-hour film, written and directed by Gao, is based on the writer's poem of the same name.
Called a "cinematic poem" by Gao, the film departs from traditional film narratives and includes poetry, paintings, monologues in Chinese, French and English, and performances by dozens of actors, NTNU said.
The film's world premiere was in Singapore in November 2013.
Born in China and naturalized as a French citizen, Gao is known for his novels, such as "Soul Mountain" and "One Man's Bible," and his ink wash paintings, which have been exhibited in Europe, the United States and Asia.
His previous experimental films include "Silhouette/Shadow" and "After the Flood."
Gao, who arrived in Taiwan on Tuesday from France, will leave the country on April 25.
