At the invitation of the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), H.E. Sir Colville Young, Governor General of Belize, accompanied by Hon. Senator Audrey Joy Grant, Minister of Energy, Science and Technology, and Public Utilities; Dr. Colin Young, Chief Executive Officer; Dr. Alan Slusher, President of the University of Belize, visits the Republic of China (Taiwan) May 10th to 15th, 2015。
As a senior statesman, Sir Colville Young has visited Taiwan many times, and has accumulated in-depth observation and knowledge about the people and society of Taiwan. He has highly valued the partnership between Belize and Taiwan, and recognized the importance of, and supported the cooperation projects in a wide array of fields between the Republic of China (Taiwan) and Belize, and among many other developing countries.
Governor General Young has been highly knowledgeable, graceful and well respected and loved by the people of Belize. He served as an educationist for many years and has educated countless excellences. His deep affection for literature, arts and music, and the profound attainment has enabled him to enrich the spiritual life of Belizean people and society, and help to make Belize an amicable and peaceful country.
Sir Colville Young has been in particular an expert in telling stories. He has always shared people with interesting stories with background of the beautiful nature of Belize and its pure minded people. With these stories, Sir Colville Young has infused sense of protecting the nature and environment into people’s mind and inspired wisdom.
Given many similarities between Belize and Taiwan, Governor General Young decides to have his most satisfactory seven stories compiled into a collection and entitle it as “Pataki Full” to be translated and publicized in Taiwan. By doing so, the folk wisdom of Belize can be shared by people of Taiwan. The launch of “Pataki Full” and donation of 300 books to Chi-Mei Elementary School of the New Taipei City have been put high above on the agenda for his visit.
In addition to calling on H.E. Ma, Ying-jeou, President of the Republic of China (Taiwan); H.E. David Y.L. Lin, Minister of Foreign Affairs; and attending the dinner hosted in his honor by President Ma, Sir Colville Young will also visit with Professor and world-famous poet Mr. Kwang-Chung Yu of the National Sun Yat-sen University; and Dr. Jason Hu, Vice President of Want Want China Times Media Group to dig into the environment for cultural development and artistic creativeness of Taiwan.
Hon. Senator Audrey Joy Grant has been devoted to environment conservation since early years, and made great efforts to promote public awareness on climate change and the ways to cope with it. As Minister of Energy, Science and Technology and Public Utilities of Belize, Hon. Grant is now facing the challenge of plotting a sustainable policy for the exploitation and efficient consumption of energy in Belize and the future development of science and technology.
During her visit, Minister grant will call on her counterparts in the government of the Republic of China, including H.E. David Y.L. Lin, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Dr. Jyuo-Min Shyu, Minister of Science and Technology; Dr. Eugene Chien, Chairman, Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy, to exchange views with them on matters of mutual concern and discuss possible projects for future bilateral cooperation, especially in the areas of science, technology, and renewable energy. She is also invited to give a lecture on “Climate Change, Belize, and post Kyoto Protocol Negotiations” to the new recruits of the Institute of Diplomacy and International Affairs, the Republic of China (Taiwan).
