On November 14, Ambassador Lily Li-Wen Hsu and Hon. Julius Espat, Minister of Infrastructure Development & Housing, on behalf of their respective governments, signed a record of donation for the Construction of 50 Low-Income Houses Project. Also present at the ceremony were Mr. Victor Espat, CEO of MIDH, Mr. Evondale Moody, Chief Engineer, Heads of Departments and staff at MIDH, as well as Mrs. Wen Chou, Counselor of the Embassy.
This donation was a commitment made by President Tsai In-Wen when she visited Belize in April this year. President Tsai learned about Belize’s Low-Income Housing Program during her meeting with Prime Minister Briceño and his cabinet. As Taiwan is also promoting social housing policy, the two sides had a good exchange of views on the issue, and as a result Taiwan government agreed to provide financial support for the project.
Taiwan will continue to work with Belize Government to promote people’s welfare, strengthen bilateral ties and deepen our friendship.
