“Today, we are not merely breaking ground on a new hospital; we are strengthening foundation for an everlasting friendship and healthy partnership between Taiwan and Belize.”
On March 1, Ambassador Lily Li-Wen Hsu was delighted to join Hon. John Briceño, Prime Minister of Belize, Hon. Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health and Wellness, Hon. Christopher Coye, Minister of State of the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development, and Investment, Hon. Andre Perez, Area Representative for Belize Rural South, His Worship Wally Nunez, Mayor of San Pedro Town, Chairlady Seleny Villanueva-Pott of Caye Caulker, Mr. Tony Chang, Vice General Manager of Overseas Engineering & Construction Co. (OECC), as well as friends from San Pedro and Caye Caulker communities in attending the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of San Pedro General Hospital.
Taiwan is honored to collaborate with the Government of Belize in this meaningful project. This much need hospital not only will safeguard the well-being of residents of the local communities, but also provide quality healthcare services to the ever-growing visitors, and thus bring positive impacts to tourism and economic development.
This year Taiwan and Belize will celebrate 35 years of diplomatic relations. This ground breaking ceremony further highlights the close bonds and everlasting friendship between our two nations and peoples!
