Applicants are required to apply with both (1) the Embassy and (2) the University. Application documents have to be respectively submitted to the Embassy by Tuesday, March 31, 2026, and to the University before its specific deadline. Duration of Scholarships:
The award periods for different degree programs are listed below:
- Pre-degree Mandarin Language Enrichment Program (LEP): maximum 1 year (optional)
- Undergraduate program: maximum 4 years
- Master’s program: maximum 2 years
- Doctoral program: maximum 4 years
Award periods must be continuous and cannot exceed a total of 5 years. The LEP study program must be undertaken in the first year.
Important regulations and notices:
- Scholarship recipients will be provided with a round-trip economy class airfare and a monthly stipend of NT$28,000 for the LEP and NT$33,000 for degree programs (to be used for housing, tuition fees, credit fees, insurance, textbook costs etc.). Universities may offer MOFA Scholarship recipients reduced tuition and miscellaneous fees.

- Applicants must fill out the online MOFA Scholarship Application form and submit it with related documents to the Embassy before Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

- LEP applicants must submit proof of application/admission not only to a Mandarin Language Center affiliated with a university in Taiwan, but also to the next-stage university/college. The exact academic years that applicants would be enrolled full-time at these two institutions must be clearly specified on the proof of documents. The study periods for these two programs must be consecutive.
- Students scheduled to graduate in June 2026 are allowed to apply, and must submit the original letter of completion and the original transcript certified by the Ministries of Education and Foreign Affairs in Belmopan.
- Those whose diploma and transcripts were obtained in foreign countries are required to have their documents certified by the Republic of China (Taiwan) Embassy/Consulate(General)/Representative Office in that country.
- All applicants must submit their application IN PERSON and must make an appointment with the Embassy before submitting their applications.
- Once the applicant’s application is accepted, the Embassy will schedule an interview.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Be Belizean citizens (Overseas Chinese and Taiwanese nationals are not eligible).
- Must not be a current recipient of a scholarship or being offered subsidy by any other government agencies or educational institutions in Taiwan.
- Has never attended an educational institution in Taiwan at the same level of degree or LEP that the applicant intends to apply for.
- Is not an exchange student through any cooperation agreement between a foreign university/college and an educational institute in Taiwan while receiving the Scholarship.
- Must possess a high school diploma (NOTE: Ming Chuan University requires at least a Junior College Diploma. Applicants are advised to consult with the school of their interest for eligibility), undergraduate or graduate degree relevant to the intended area of study. The minimum GPA must be 3.0 or above.
- Be in good mental and physical health and between the age of 18 and 35 (born between January 1, 1990 and June 30, 2008).
- Those who work in governmental agencies must submit the approval letter issued from their working agencies together with their application.
- No record of being cancelled or disqualified for Taiwan-oriented scholarship, nor has been expelled from the University that the applicant had studied in Taiwan before.
Required Documents:
- Completed MOFA Scholarship Application Form (doc/pdf).
- Photocopy of the highest-level diploma certified by the Ministries of Education and Foreign Affairs in Belmopan
- Original and complete transcript certified by the Ministries of Education and Foreign Affairs in Belmopan
- Supporting proof of application/admission materials issued by a university/college in Taiwan
- NOTE: LEP applicants must submit proof of application/admission not only to a Mandarin Language Center affiliated with a university in Taiwan, but also to the next-stage university/college)

- NOTE: Applicants must independently apply for admission to a university/college of their choice before the relevant application deadlines. Securing admission to a university/college is a prerequisite for scholarship eligibility. Applicants who fail to pass the admission review process of the respective universities/colleges will be deemed ineligible for the scholarship.
- Photocopy of a certificate of the acceptable levels of Chinese language proficiency, if Mandarin will be used for instruction in classes
- NOTE: LEP applicants do not need to submit this document
- Two letters of recommendation
- Photocopy of passport or other nationality certificates (must bring the original to the Embassy upon submission)
Deadline:
All required documents mentioned above must be completed and submitted in a 10" X 13" sized envelope specifying intended program of study, no later than Tuesday, March 31, 2026, to the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) at #1 Taiwan Street, Belize City. All applicants must make an appointment with the Embassy before submitting their applications. Late and incomplete applications will be rejected.
