Today, Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño signed two pivotal loan agreements on behalf of Belize, paving the way for a revitalized Philip Goldson International Highway and new opportunities to boost employment and workforce participation nationwide.
Through a new partnership with Taiwan’s ICDF, Belize will transform 26.5 kilometers of roadway into a modern, safer route. The project will rebuild the road from the ground up, enhance safety through improved alignments, upgrade drainage to prevent flooding, and introduce advanced road safety features.
The second agreement, through a joint partnership with the ICDF and IDB, is set to empower Belize’s workforce by modernizing employment services, enhancing labour market data, and breaking down barriers for women, youth, migrants, and other vulnerable groups seeking meaningful work.
Dr. Yu-Lin Huang, the Secretary General of the ICDF, and Ms. Karla González, Country representative for the Inter-American Development Bank, signed on behalf of Belize’s development partners.
