Representative Winston Wen-yi Chen of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Canada and Mr. Jordan Reeves, Executive Director of the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei (CTOT), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) regarding Cooperation in Transportation Safety on December 14, marking a new chapter in bilateral cooperation between Taiwan and Canada.
Respecting COVID-19 health measures, the signing ceremony took place virtually and was witnessed by Dr. Young Hong-tsu, Chairperson of Taiwan Transportation Safety Board (TTSB), and Ms. Kathy Fox, Chair of the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB).
Transportation safety cooperation between Taiwan and Canada dates back more than two decades when both sides signed the first MOU in 1999 following the establishment of Taiwan's Aviation Safety Council (ASC), the predecessor of TTSB on May 25, 1998.
The new MOU will further strengthen the exchange mechanism between Taiwan and Canada. It will additionally expand the scope of transportation safety cooperation in air, marine and rail safety occurrence investigations, as well as personnel training and information sharing.
