2023 Ministry of Education Taiwan Scholarship

About

The Taiwan Scholarship aims to encourage outstanding international students (excluding students from mainland China, Hong Kong or Macau) to pursue a university degree in Taiwan.

The scholarship is managed in accordance with Taiwan Scholarship Program Directions (see Appendix 1) of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of China (Taiwan).

Scholarship Value

Scholarship recipients will receive the following:

  1. Tuition and Miscellaneous expenses: Up to NT$40,000 per semester to cover tuition and miscellaneous fees (including credit fees). If the combined total of tuition and fees exceeds NT$40,000, the scholarship recipient will be liable for any outstanding amount. The following items are not covered by the scholarship: administrative fees, thesis advising fees, insurance premiums, accommodation, and internet access.
  2. Stipend:  Monthly living allowance to cover living expenses during staying in Taiwan. Recipients pursuing an undergraduate degree will receive a monthly stipend of NT$15,000; recipients pursuing a graduate degree (MA or PhD) will receive a monthly stipend of NT$20,000.

For a list of universities that help cover tuition and fees that remain following the NT$40,000 scholarship payment, please refer to Appendix 4: Universities/Colleges Providing Tuition & Miscellaneous Expense Discounts for MOE Taiwan Scholarship Recipients 2023 Academic Year.

Available Scholarships

One Canadian student may be selected as scholarship recipients for 2023.

Duration of Scholarships

The duration of the scholarship is based on the academic degree pursued by the recipient:

  • Bachelor's degree: four years
  • Master’s degree: two years
  • Doctoral degree: four years

If a recipient completes one degree and then pursues an advanced degree, they may claim the scholarship up to a maximum of five years.

The budget for the Taiwan Scholarship runs on an annual basis from September 1 until August 31 the following year. Recipients must arrive in Taiwan and officially register at their university/college by the specified deadline, unless a delay has been approved by their university and the MOE. Recipients who fail to arrive in Taiwan to register by the aforesaid deadline will forfeit their scholarship.

Recipients will start receiving monthly stipends beginning the month they register at their university/college. Stipends will be disbursed until the scholarship period ends, or the recipient graduates, withdraws from studies, is suspended or expelled from their university/college, or the scholarship is revoked.

In order to be eligible to apply, an applicant must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen;
  • Have a high school diploma or a higher degree;

An application package must include:

1. 2023 Taiwan Scholarship Application Form (see Appendix 2).

Please refer to  2023 List of UniversitiesColleges Providing Degree Programs Taught in English to confirm.
