Director Victor Liu of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, Toronto, together with Jeffrey Chiu, Director of Taiwan Trade Center, Toronto and Marie Cheng, President of the Taiwan Merchants Association of Toronto, attended the 38th Annual Convention & Gala of Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) held on June 6th at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Almost 1,000 guests showed up for the event, including Toronto Mayor John Tory, provincial and municipal politicians, and local Canadian business leaders.
During the event, Director Liu and local Taiwanese business leaders shared their perspectives with guests on how to promote economic-trade relations between Taiwan and India, as well as that between Taiwan and Canada. India’s GDP in 2014 is as high as US$2,133.2 billion. Overseas Indians have built a very influential ethnic Indian community in Canada. To promote more contacts between Indian ethnic groups and Taiwanese community in the Greater Toronto Area, leaders of local Taiwanese and Indian business leaders attending the event agreed to increase constructive dialogues and commercial exchanges between them.
Local Taiwanese business leaders in attendance had a chance to talk with Mayor Tory about Toronto’s Taiwanese businesses and the activities of the city’s Taiwanese community. During the gathering, leaders of local Taiwanese community were able to interact with politicians of the mainstream society and leaders of Indo-Canadian business community. They also praised Toronto TECO for helping local Taiwanese community to participate in activities of mainstream society as well as other ethnic communities, which has greatly promoted Taiwan’s people-to-people diplomacy.
Founded in 1977, the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization. Its programs and policies aim to foster individual initiative, and the ability of members to make a significant contribution to the economic, cultural and social fabric of Canada. The annual convention and gala is its most important event.
